The Engineer’s Junk Drawer
In any commercial industry, a natural tension exists between passion and profit.
From music production to industrial design, a delicate balance between the two concepts must be maintained, through concession, to ensure financial viability.
More plainly; doing something you like is fine, as long as you can make enough money to fund it. If not, the endeavor is simply a hobby, not a business.
This is the hardest struggle for us at Lead & Steel to overcome.
Ahmad started the company because he wanted to make cool shit. Every employee who works at Lead & Steel does so in order to be involved in making cool shit.
Nah, really…
However, having fun making cool shit doesn’t always necessarily translate to profit.
A lot of the time, fun and profit are actually on opposite ends of the business spectrum.
(“The actual profit is the fun part of profit” – American Capitalist.)
Across industries, lack of a projected profit is typically where passion dies, or rather, is murdered gruesomely in a graphic public display.
Maybe an idea is abandoned entirely, or maybe it’s watered down and neutered into a completely different idea for profitability, regardless, if it don’t make $, then it don’t make ¢.
At Lead & Steel, instead of abandoning or commercializing the shit we think is cool, we came up with the Sandbox.
The Sandbox is kinda like that one kitchen drawer; full of randomness that has no other home.
Except, it’s Lead & Steel randomness, which is typically awesome.
We are allowing a peek into the Lead & Steel kitchen drawer, and apparently there’s sand inside?
Sandbox offerings will be limited in nature, as opposed to Lead & Steel mainstays.
Whether small batches or limited releases, the only guarantee is that there is no guarantee on how long or how often objects will appear.
Additionally, Sandbox offerings may be featured as a prototype or betas in effort to develop future products.
From nylon to patches to camo to optics, we aren’t even sure ourselves what will ultimately end up offered.
Lastly, besides working for our great, supreme leader who actually values passion, another benefit of working at Lead & Steel is the ability to list privately owned used employee firearms online instead of on online firearm marketplaces. No reason to pretend it’s not as simple as that.
So, feel free to check the Sandbox regularly. The very first offerings are already up:
